Velvet + Suede

January 9, 2018

Here’s what I would have worn to celebrate New Year’s Eve. Posting it as an outfit feature sort of counts, right? Sure. Something like that.

Wearing: Free People tunic c/o Gordmans | Suede booties c/o Gordmans | Jeans, AE | Jewelry, Kendra Scott

I wasn’t sure I’d like the combination of velvet and suede, because rustic and glam seem… ya know… weird together. But something about the multifaceted hue of velvet with the multifaceted hue of suede seemed to match, and then the two-tone jewelry I added on top somehow tied it all together… I don’t know, I’m grasping at straws to explain why I like this but I do and that’s what matters. I can’t always think of the right words, okay? What am I, a professional writer or something? (Har har.)

Gordmans sent me a gift card to check out some of the end-of-year savings in store (but all of these opinions are still my own, babes!) and I I found a ton of stuff on sale while there. This includes these suede boots for just over $10 and a bag full of Express blouses for less than $2 each.  I even found this velvet Free People tunic—a brand I didn’t know they ever carried—for about $30 marked down from more than twice as much. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised about these prices, though; Gordmans is an off-priced retailer, which means they buy excess inventory from my favorite stores and mark the prices down. Yay. And I just found out Gordmans does a “Lowest Price Guarantee,” which means if you find a better price they’ll not only match it but give you a $5 Gordmans gift card.

I think I’ll need a fun reason to celebrate in January since I didn’t get to wear this look out for NYE. A brunch? Maybe a party? Just some random Thursday with Champagne? Rad.

Cozy on a Budget

December 6, 2017

We’re having a heat wave here in the Midwest this week (okay, not an actual heat wave, but I’ll take 50 degrees in November any day!), so I’ve been putting away my parka and trying to soak in the “warmer” days as much as I can before the winter hits us like a ton of bricks. Even though I’ve lived in the Midwest my whole life, I still get a little anxious about just how crazy cold it’s going to be in Chicago in the winter, and I’m dreading the day when I wake up to see -10 degrees on my iPhone weather app. If you live in anywhere warm during the winter – congratulations, you made an excellent life choice 😉

But honestly, the winter isn’t all bad. Cold weather is the perfect time to cozy up at home, light a million candles, drink hot cocoa (or mulled wine, let’s be real) and layer up on cozy layers all season long. I’ve loaded up on scarfs, sweaters, coats, slippers, extra-thick socks, and everything else you need to effectively hibernate all season long.

The one problem? Loading up on cozy clothes seems to cost an arm and a leg these days. In the world of $900 winter jackets, luxe cashmere sweaters, and all the crazy expensive things you “need” to stay warm this season, when you start to add them up you realize that by the time you get everything you won’t actually be able to pay your heating bill this month (which is probably a little more important than designer slippers, right?) And since I’m on a budget, I wanted to find everything that will keep me warm without completely breaking the bank (so yeah, the $900 jacket was definitely a no-go!)

To find a few cozy layers that wouldn’t break the bank, I stopped by Gordmans to check out their selection of jackets, sweaters, scarves, winter dresses and more. I’ve always loved Gordmans since they opened back home when I was in high school (we won’t talk about how long ago that was…), and since then it’s been my go-to place for finding quality, layered pieces on a budget. On another note – it’s also an awesome place to get cute, affordable gift sets for your co-workers or toys for any cute kids on your Christmas list!

I picked up this stitched field jacket for less than $40, as well as this pretty plaid scarf that was only $13 – both of which are super cozy and definitely didn’t break the bank. I love that the jacket looks just like the $300 jacket I’d been having my eye on for awhile, and the pretty snap details, faux leather accents and the tied waist make the jacket super special and fit perfectly. I also found this perfect white cable sweater for under $20 that’s one of those everyday sweaters I can wear throughout the winter. It has a fold-over turtleneck to keep you cozy underneath your favorite jacket, and looks good with an oversized sweater on those extra cold days. I’ve already gotten a few compliments on a few of these new wardrobe staples, and when I tell friends that I got it at Gordmans they’ve been surprised – and then when I’ve told them how much it cost, they’ve been extra impressed.

Zoe’s Gift Picks Under $25 Each (But You’d Never Know It!)

December 2, 2017

Hi, I’m Zoe, your Gordmans stylist. My Christmas gifting strategy is a delicate balancing act. I want to give my family and friends gifts they’ll really want, but my budget says “hold on just a minute.” That’s why I love working (and shopping) at Gordmans—it’s the best of both worlds. I can give the big names without spending big bucks. And that makes me extra merry.

Here are some of the gifty (and thrifty!) treasures I found in store this week—all under $25 each.

  • Practical AND posh, a glitzy notebook with monogrammed initial makes a thoughtful, unique gift.
  • Every girl I know would love cozy-chic slippers for that warm and fuzzy feeling long after the holidays.
  • For nifty nesters, I found a cute accent pillow, a snuggly throw and a cheery holiday mug.
  • We all know a bag charm is a great stocking stuffer—but one that’s a charger, too? That’s gifting gold!
  • Make sure she’s set for ringing in the New Year with a glam clutch for all her must-haves.
  • Beauty buffs would love a LED mirror for creating the hottest eye looks.

What will you discover? There’s so much more merry to discover in store. Or if you’ve got gifter’s block, a Gordmans gift card makes the perfect present for anyone. I can’t wait for you to share pics of your gift finds by tagging #gotitatgordmans

Décor Fashion

Fall Fashion Essentials

November 22, 2017

Hey guys! Hope your Wednesday has been amazing so far!

I’m super excited about this partnership with Gordmans because I’ve been their customer since the first day I moved to the U.S and I’ve always been a fan of their product and prices in special.

Gordmans has always been one of my go-to stores for home decor items. Every time I want to give my apartment an update, I always think of Gordmans because they always have the cutest items at the best prices. They are changing the off-price retailer game by working hard to offer you more deals and more style than ever before.

Plus, their friendly associates are there to help you choose a new outfit or help you find pieces to complete the vision you have for your home-something you don’t find at other retailers.

I totally recommend you to come in and see for yourself! I promise you guys will love what you will see!

During my visit, I found a cute outfit and some really cool pieces to give my bar cart an update. I’ve been looking for a good pair of black jeans and these ones are perfection, plus how fun are the grommet details on the side. I will for sure be wearing these non-stop this fall and winter.

Also, this cardigan was love at first sight, the material feels incredibly soft and the color was perfect for what I had in mind. I’ve been wanting to find a cardigan just like this one and at Gordmans I found so many options. To top off the look, I really wanted to find an accessory that could add that extra interest and this Express animal print belt was just what I needed.

Grey, black and animal print together sound like heaven for me and as you can see all these items look ultra chic! Make sure to visit your closest Gordmans soon to recreate this same exact look! Except for the shoes and bag which I’ve had for a while.

Search the closest location to you here!

Now let’s talk about my bar cart! How cute does it look?! I’m obsessed with marble and Gordmans had the best accessories in that material right now. I found that marble jar with gold accents and I started browsing for more accessories that would look good with it.

Since I wanted to go for a luxe California vibe, I chose more white accessories and clear glass pieces to accomplish the idea. The faux plant gave the bar cart the perfect pop of color and it just brought everything together. I’m obsessed with the results!

The outfit plus all these pretty items cost no more than $100! Yes 🙂 You read it right, and that’s why I love going to Gordmans so much.  They buy excess inventory from department stores and specialty stores to sell it at greatly prices, so, don’t miss out the exceptional deals on designer and name brand fashion an home décor they have right now just in time for the holidays!

I’m planning to add some Christmas accessories and lights for the holiday season, so I will be back in Gordmans pretty soon!

How to Stretch Your Dollar When Getting Holiday Glam

November 18, 2017

Holiday party season is right around the corner. If you’re like me, you’re already asking the question, “what do I wear to all these events?” I enjoy getting super glam during the holiday season. But, I also like starting the new year on a strong financial foot, so I never want to overspend on my holiday style. Luckily, here at Economy of Style, we know that great style is not determined by the size of your budget. I’m so excited, then, to partner with Gordmans to show you how easy it can be to look like a million bucks for under $100!

I’m a regular Gordmans shopper (see herehere, and here). Gordmans is an off price store that offers big brands at small prices. The stores are huge and filled with merchandise. So, when you shop, you absolutely need a strategy in order to maximize your budget. Here are my top 3 tips for shopping off-price stores:

3 Tips for Shopping Off-Price

1. Know what you want. Gordmans stores carry lots of treasures. But, just because something is a good deal, it doesn’t mean it’s a good deal for you. So, shop with purpose.

2. Get the real thing. When you shop off-price, look for brands that you know and love on the retail market.

3. Know your stuff. Following up on that second point, know what those items usually retail for, so you can know when you’re getting an amazing deal.

I hinted at the start of today’s post that I found my entire look at Gordmans for under $100. I did! It actually only cost me $84 before tax. Here’s the breakdown because I know you want receipts:

Vest: Retail $98 | Gordmans $12.99

Skirt: Retail $40 | Gordmans $5.99

Booties: Retail $70 | Gordmans $44.95

Necklace: Retail $30 | Gordmans $9.99

Sunglasses: Retail $40 | $9.99

I’m a huge fan of the power suit trend this fall. So, when I visited Gordmans, my goal was to find sharp separates to build my own power look. And, y’all, I stepped into a holiday glam gold mine. Apparently, Gordmans purchased a warehouse filled with Express items, and the markdowns are steep. I saw coats for $12.99, suiting pieces for under $10, and sweaters for $7.99. As a longtime Gordmans shopper, I’ve never found steals this amazing.

I tried on so many items, from pants to blazers to sweaters before deciding on today’s holiday glam look.

I gave a sneak peek of this look on Instagram last Friday. And, that post quickly became my most engaged post of all time. I enjoyed your feedback. I heard words like “boss,” “power,” “fierce,” and “slay.” What I didn’t hear was “cheap” because this affordable outfit looks absolutely expensive.

I’m telling you. Shopping with a purpose at Gordmans will get you the best deals for you.

Shoes usually max my budget. So, I was thrilled to find these Unisa booties for under $50. They’re the perfect wear-with-everything nude for fall.

To complete my look, I just threw on one of my older coats and a party bag, and I was ready to go. Holiday glam!

Location: Central Library, Downtown, St. Louis

Let me know what you find when you shop the latest arrivals at Gordmans. And, stay tuned for an upcoming holiday gift post featuring some of my top finds for gifts. All I’m going to say is there are two items from Gucci that I got at about 60% off.

Layer on Fall

November 17, 2017

Fall’s in full swing. Scarves, booties, sweaters, and cozy socks— we’re ready to break out our favorite fall fashion pieces. Find ways to spruce up your wardrobe and even showcase your favorite summer pieces.

A Pop of Color

Who says that fall should be dull? Bring your outfit to life with a pop of color and some fierce accessories. Repurpose your favorite summer dress and pair it with those sassy thigh high boots you have shoved away in your closet— you know you’ve been waiting all summer to wear them, right? Throw on your go to floppy hat and your velvet backpack (we MUST throw in our favorite fall trend) and you’re ready for a head turning day out. Perfect for date night or even dancing all night.

For a Busy Day

Cute and comfortable? We’re here for it! Keep it simple with a pair of leggings, a graphic shirt, and a denim jacket. Don’t feel like doing your hair? No problem. Throw on a hat and you have a hassle-free outfit. With this outfit, you’re ready for a busy (or lazy) day.

Keeping it Chic

If this doesn’t scream chic and cozy, we don’t know what does. This wine-colored sweater is perfect for fall (and will even have you dreaming of actual wine). Socks are no longer boring – spruce up your favorite bootie with a pair of bold socks. Wrap up in your go-to printed scarf and head out the door. The cold weather won’t touch you in this fit.

Netflix and Chill

We had to throw in the perfect outfit for staying in bed all day. Warm up some hot chocolate, find a new Netflix show to binge-watch and you’ll really be “Busy Doing Nothing”. This long sleeve sweater and loose pajama bottoms will keep you warm (and cozy) while you’re enjoying your day off. Oh, and who doesn’t love these cute fuzzy slippers?

Feel ready for fall now? We are! Tell fall to bring it on. We’re ready to dress it up with our fall attire.

Gordmans Gotta-Haves:
The Cozy-Chic Trend Our Stylist is Wrapped Up in

November 15, 2017

Hi! I’m Zoe, your Gordmans stylist. I love shopping at our stores for on-trend items, and I’m sharing my tips and picks for our guests to get the low-down on the latest fashion forward finds at great deals.

I’m all about feeling cozy-chic for winter and these Gordmans Gotta-Haves work well together so you can mix-and-match, or dress up and down, wherever you’re going.

Here’s what I picked for you to add to your wardrobe now, and wear throughout winter:

  • A black sock bootie elevates everything from jeans to skirts, and a block heel gives you a sturdy base to stand on.
  • A medium-sized neutral structured tote stows more than just essentials, but it’s not so big things get lost in the shuffle. Pair a similar style with any outfit to refine your look.
  • For those bad hair days (or not), an “anything-but-basic” boho hat is the secret weapon to look pulled together.
  • A warm faux fur vest instantly adds texture (and style points) to whatever you’re wearing, from everyday knit tops to dresses
  • Different than your average denim, you’ll get serious wear out of side-stripe jeans, versatile enough for all things casual
  • A lace cami adds the right feminine touch layered under any top
  • Is ‘blanket-chic’ is a thing? Because this mauve ruana is a dream! Get wrapped up in it for extra warmth, and it’s so soft, you’ll find any reason to wear it. Belt it to look more polished in a cinch.

I scored these cozy-chic every girl essentials in stores now, so bookmark this for your next shopping trip. I can’t wait for you to share pics of your new wardrobe additions with us by tagging #gotitatgordmans.

Gordmans Gotta-Haves:
The Fall Trends Our Stylist Scored

October 26, 2017

Hi! I’m Zoe, your Gordmans stylist. Every time I shop our stores for the latest styles, I feel like I’ve hit the fashion jackpot! I want all of our guests to feel like that, too.

So my goal when choosing my Gordmans Gotta-Haves is to show everyone how to get the latest craze for less cash and get big names without paying big bucks. Because great minds shop alike!

This season, you’ve gotta have some luxe looks in your closet. Here’s what’s filed in our style cabinet:

  • Velvet everything. It’s a smooth operator that makes everything better from bags to boots. And when it’s paired with the latest jewel tones — AH-mazing and just screams luxe.
  • Speaking of jewel tones, they’re pretty much replacing diamonds as a girl’s best friend this fall. What’s better on a dreary, drab day than wearing a fab sapphire A-line skirt or ruby red combat boots?
  • Everyone wants that one super comfy black sweater that you wish you could literally live in (but you can’t because…laundry day).
  • Leopard print. Can I just ask how such a bold print goes with almost everything?! Of course you don’t want to pair it with a huge floral print or anything like that, but this backpack can rock a jeans and t-shirt look during the day and an LBD at night.
  • You need a triangle scarf in your life! Trust me on this. It can be used in so many ways and has style for miles.

I scored all of these need-now luxe looks right in our stores. Imagine what unburied treasure you’ll find! What are your Gordmans gotta-haves?!

5 Fall Fashion Trends You’ll See Everywhere this Fall

September 5, 2017

Let’s hear it for fall, y’all! We love its crisp, semi-chilled air. The fiery beauty of the changing leaves. But, most of all, the arrival of new styles, colors and trends is what has us giddy with excitement. And do you blame us? These five fall fashion trends are fresh, feminine, fab and totally easy to mix into your weekend and weekday (aka office) style. We’ve also included a few styling tips on how to pull them off without a lot of fuss. Is it us – or are you sensing major 70s vibes? Time to swoon.

The Stitch Niche

Embroidery is back in a big way for fall fashion 2017 – and we’re loving every single stitch. Not only does it infuse color and a dash of elegance, it’s popping up in unexpected places on many of your favorite styles. On caps? We love. On the shoulder of a tee? Genius.

How To Style It:

Pair it with frayed-hem denim and simple slides for casual outings or dress it up with high-waisted skinny jeans and stacked heels. Just grab a clutch and you’re set for a day-to-night look.

A Mesh Sesh

Mesh is the peek-a-boo trend to love for fall. It allows you to show a little skin, yet still keep yourself covered. The key is layering. Layer mesh fabrics over other key pieces and you’re bound to turn heads.

How To Style It:

Pair it with acid wash denim and classic sneakers for a throwback look or wear it over a sports bra or bralette to go from gym to cocktails in no time.

Well, Red

Stand out in the brightest color trend of the season – red. One of the official colors for Fall 2017, we can’t get enough of its warm hues as we head into the winter months. Wear it head to toe for looks best described as ‘dynamic.’ (And a little on the ‘sexy’ side, too.)

How To Style It:

Pair it with anything black, go for pattern play or pop basic outfits with red accessories. Red makes a bold statement, anytime, anywhere.

The Plush Rush

This fall, there’s a major crush on all things plush. Hello, velvet and velour. Add texture to your fave outfits by mixing in velvet accessories that shimmer and shine. When a bit more stretch is called for, opt for comfy velour pieces. Both fabrics can luxe up any look with ease.

How To Style It:

Pair either fabric with lightwash denim and ankle boots for laidback lunches or with a choker and over-the-knee boots for Girls Night Out.

Dare To Flare

Flare isn’t just for bottoms anymore. Go dramatic with ultra-feminine tops featuring bell sleeves. In bold prints or solids, the look definitely screams 1970s. But, when the look is this fresh, we’re totally on board.

How To Style It:

Pair it dark-wash destructed denim and lace up booties or rock your look with rose gold sunnies and tassel earrings for a modern twist. You’ll be the star of the show at your next concert or festival.
