Farmhouse Style Gift Baskets

December 18, 2017

Something you may not know about me is that I like to curate collections of things I love. It can range from vintage finds for our home, to Pinterest boards full of inspiration that goes along with my design style, or even wrapping paper patterns for my yearly themes. I truly enjoy it, so when Gordmans reached out to me and asked if I wanted to curate a few gift basket ideas for Christmas, I loved the idea!

Obviously my style is very modern farmhouse with neutral colors, so I wanted to stay true to that and give my gift baskets the same look and feel as how I decorate my home. At the same time, I wanted them to be a great gift that someone would love too. Gordmans was filled with so so many awesome finds, and you guys, I was in there shopping for two hours! I couldn’t decide on what to get! I ended up with two gift basket ideas, and I hope you love them!

My first gift basket is all about getting cozy for Christmas. Remember in my last post how I mentioned that I have been obsessed with watching Hallmark Christmas movies and that I needed a support group for my addiction!? Well, this gift basket is perfect for doing just that. All the shopping and craziness that goes along with the holidays can be stressful, so I wanted to gather some goodies for a relaxing night of coziness.

Grab a blanket and a big ol’ mug and make yourself some hot cocoa.

Cute winter house shoes are a MUST.

Um, a box of chocolates, need I say more?

And a cute reminder of the adorable gift basket you received, hung on the tree with a memory.

My second gift basket is for the farmhouse lovers. Gordmans had a great selection of amazing farmhouse decor. Who needs a boring basket when you can use a galvanized tub in the first gift basket and then this little wooden crate above to fill up. And everything I grabbed was super affordable my friends.

This candle holder is just adorable. I am seriously smitten.

Again, chocolate. No caption needed.

A yummy smelling candle in cute farmhouse style packaging.

You have me at shiplap, you to die for picture frame. And so many cute sayings, I had to pick a vintage one.

Gordmans has amazing prices, but they also have something called their “Lowest Price Guarantee.” To make sure that they can give shoppers the lowest possible price, if you find a lower price somewhere else on any item you found at Gordmans, Gordmans will match the competitors’ price and they will give you a $5 Gordmans gift card.

Gordmans told me something interesting about their Lowest Price Guarantee. They want to offer their shoppers the lowest possible prices on merchandise, so they watch their competitors’ prices and adjust their prices to beat them. But with their huge assortment of merchandise, sometimes they don’t catch every item. So, they actually use their Lowest Price Guarantee program as a “flag.” When you use the Lowest Price Guarantee, they are alerted and they’ll work on lowering the price on the item you price matched. Pretty cool!

All you have to do is show the competitor’s current ad, website or a receipt featuring an identical item, and Gordmans will match the price, plus they’ll give you a $5 Gordmans gift card. Gordmans has a page on its website that explains the LPG in detail – to read about it, visit

So if you still have a few people not checked off your list, head over to Gordmans, grab a cute crate or tub like the ones above, and throw in some goodies! They have so many great finds to round up an affordable and awesome gift basket for your loved ones!!!

Zoe’s Gift Picks Under $25 Each (But You’d Never Know It!)

December 2, 2017

Hi, I’m Zoe, your Gordmans stylist. My Christmas gifting strategy is a delicate balancing act. I want to give my family and friends gifts they’ll really want, but my budget says “hold on just a minute.” That’s why I love working (and shopping) at Gordmans—it’s the best of both worlds. I can give the big names without spending big bucks. And that makes me extra merry.

Here are some of the gifty (and thrifty!) treasures I found in store this week—all under $25 each.

  • Practical AND posh, a glitzy notebook with monogrammed initial makes a thoughtful, unique gift.
  • Every girl I know would love cozy-chic slippers for that warm and fuzzy feeling long after the holidays.
  • For nifty nesters, I found a cute accent pillow, a snuggly throw and a cheery holiday mug.
  • We all know a bag charm is a great stocking stuffer—but one that’s a charger, too? That’s gifting gold!
  • Make sure she’s set for ringing in the New Year with a glam clutch for all her must-haves.
  • Beauty buffs would love a LED mirror for creating the hottest eye looks.

What will you discover? There’s so much more merry to discover in store. Or if you’ve got gifter’s block, a Gordmans gift card makes the perfect present for anyone. I can’t wait for you to share pics of your gift finds by tagging #gotitatgordmans

Give the Gift of Luxury for Under $30!

November 28, 2017

Participating in a Secret Santa gift exchange with a spending limit? Have a long list of people to gift and want to spend responsibly? There’s no need to compromise your luxurious standards when gift shopping this holiday season. All the designer items I found in today’s gift guide are under $30. Want in on the secret? I found everything at Gordmans! Keep reading to explore all the Gordmans designer gifts I scored.

Gordmans Designer Gifts

2017 has been the year of Gucci. So, if you’re looking for an easy way to impress a woman on your list, give her Gucci. And, Gordmans is making that easy and affordable. Gucci Flora, a sophisticated floral fragrance that retails for $92, is available at Gordmans for only $54.99. Great deal, right? It gets better. When I checked out, this popular perfume rang up for only $27.48!

Naturally, I did what any savvy shopper would do. I returned to the fragrance section and grabbed an extra bottle for myself.

Burberry fragrances are among my favorite scents. So, when I spotted the My Burberry gift set, which features a limited edition fragrance, I knew it would make the perfect gift. And, the best part? This set retails for about $60. At Gordmans, it’s only $19.99. You can buy the entire set and use the individual minis as stocking stuffers or the sweet treat in a gift bag you curate.

Who doesn’t love a good manicure? The Kerry Washington x OPI collaboration last year was well-received. After all, we Scandal fans all want to channel our inner Gladiators. So, if you know someone who missed these limited edition colors, grab the collection of minis at Gordmans and make their holiday special. And, get this. The set is on clearance for $3.48 (retail $15). By the way, I picked up the jumbo Yankee candle and the marble notebook (also seen below) for less than half their retail prices in the home goods section at Gordmans. Both items would make great last-minute gifts.

And, finally, here’s a little something for that friend whose smartphone is always dead. Battery life? What’s that? I keep car chargers, charge cables, and portable chargers on hand. And, I never pay full price for those items because I can stock up at reduced prices at Gordmans. These gold styles are so holiday-perfect too. If I were your secret santa, you’d get something you can use like this from me.

Christmas Gift Basket Idea – Farmhouse Style

November 25, 2017

I partnered up with Gordman’s to bring you a simple Christmas gift basket idea. I love neutral colors, wood tones, wicker, pottery and vintage inspired items.

So, for this basket I browsed around until I found just that!

I started with a pretty wicker basket that was around $8. Score.  I added in some paper packaging to bring the height up a little.

The jingle bell and ornament have that vintage charm.  I also added a ceramic vase in neutral tones and a wooden snowflake string art piece.

The gray and white home sign tied everything together.

I topped the basket off with some pine cones and boxwood greenery.

I think a certain someone on my list will be very happy to get this gift basket.

So while I was at Gordman’s I may or may not have spotted a few things that I wanted for myself.  Hey, a gift for them and a gift for me., right? 😉

I saw this ceramic and jute plant hanger and loved the soft gray color and the simplicity of it.

I also grabbed this little gray and white woven rug.  It will probably find a permanent home in our laundry/mud room area, but for now, I love the look of layered rugs.

I also though the color was perfect with my new plant hanger.

Easy Salted Caramel Chocolate Mousse Two Ways

November 21, 2017

I can’t believe Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner. I’m so excited for all the decorations and dinner parties. Recently, I was at Gordmans and came away with these cute wooden kitchen supplies. I have always wanted a tray that had a little bowl in it haha! I plan to use it with guac and chips or veggies and dip… but it’s first use had to be something a little less healthy like chocolate mousse haha!

This tray and wooden cutting board are perfect for serving during the holidays. There were so many cute kitchen items at Gordmans and at a such a great price. Little trays like this would make a perfect gift for the holidays.

This tray and wooden cutting board are perfect for serving during the holidays. I love chocolate mousse and love salted caramel so I decided to combine the two. When I think about holiday treats, I always think about peppermint and chocolate, so I like that the salted caramel still feels like a holiday treat but isn’t as common as peppermint. I used the mousse as a dipping sauce, where people can scoop up some mousse on their plate and dip yummy little snacks in it. Also, I used the mousse as a brownie topper. I just pipped on a little bit on top of the brownies. So yummy!

2 cups heavy cream
10 oz dark or bittersweet chocolate chips
2 TBS caramel sauce (ice cream topper caramel works great)
1 tsp sea salt

Melt the chocolate chips with a double broiler. Let cool slightly. Whip the heavy cream with the whisk attachment until medium peaks form. Add in the melted chocolate, caramel and salt. Continue whisking until stiff peaks form. Refrigerate until use. Add some caramel and sea salt to the top to garnish.

Just in the NYX of time!

November 21, 2017

The holidays are here—and you’ve got places to go and parties to attend. Watch our video to see Bonnie, Gordmans corporate associate and cosmetics fanatic, demonstrate her step-by-step approach to getting ready in a dash. She uses her favorite line—NYX.

1. After doing her brows, she uses the NYX eyeshadow kit to create a neutral, smokey-eye look.

2. First, she adds a neutral color to her lid.

3. She adds depth with a rich, brown shade.

4. She uses black eyeshadow on the outer portion of her eyelid to add even more depth.

5. With a simple smudge of the lash line, she creates the smokey effect.

6. A touch of blush and highlight to her cheeks adds just the right amount of glow.

7. To finish it off, she adds a NYX long-lasting lipstick for a pop of color.

And, voilá, she’s ready for whatever holiday festivities come her way!

How to Stretch Your Dollar When Getting Holiday Glam

November 18, 2017

Holiday party season is right around the corner. If you’re like me, you’re already asking the question, “what do I wear to all these events?” I enjoy getting super glam during the holiday season. But, I also like starting the new year on a strong financial foot, so I never want to overspend on my holiday style. Luckily, here at Economy of Style, we know that great style is not determined by the size of your budget. I’m so excited, then, to partner with Gordmans to show you how easy it can be to look like a million bucks for under $100!

I’m a regular Gordmans shopper (see herehere, and here). Gordmans is an off price store that offers big brands at small prices. The stores are huge and filled with merchandise. So, when you shop, you absolutely need a strategy in order to maximize your budget. Here are my top 3 tips for shopping off-price stores:

3 Tips for Shopping Off-Price

1. Know what you want. Gordmans stores carry lots of treasures. But, just because something is a good deal, it doesn’t mean it’s a good deal for you. So, shop with purpose.

2. Get the real thing. When you shop off-price, look for brands that you know and love on the retail market.

3. Know your stuff. Following up on that second point, know what those items usually retail for, so you can know when you’re getting an amazing deal.

I hinted at the start of today’s post that I found my entire look at Gordmans for under $100. I did! It actually only cost me $84 before tax. Here’s the breakdown because I know you want receipts:

Vest: Retail $98 | Gordmans $12.99

Skirt: Retail $40 | Gordmans $5.99

Booties: Retail $70 | Gordmans $44.95

Necklace: Retail $30 | Gordmans $9.99

Sunglasses: Retail $40 | $9.99

I’m a huge fan of the power suit trend this fall. So, when I visited Gordmans, my goal was to find sharp separates to build my own power look. And, y’all, I stepped into a holiday glam gold mine. Apparently, Gordmans purchased a warehouse filled with Express items, and the markdowns are steep. I saw coats for $12.99, suiting pieces for under $10, and sweaters for $7.99. As a longtime Gordmans shopper, I’ve never found steals this amazing.

I tried on so many items, from pants to blazers to sweaters before deciding on today’s holiday glam look.

I gave a sneak peek of this look on Instagram last Friday. And, that post quickly became my most engaged post of all time. I enjoyed your feedback. I heard words like “boss,” “power,” “fierce,” and “slay.” What I didn’t hear was “cheap” because this affordable outfit looks absolutely expensive.

I’m telling you. Shopping with a purpose at Gordmans will get you the best deals for you.

Shoes usually max my budget. So, I was thrilled to find these Unisa booties for under $50. They’re the perfect wear-with-everything nude for fall.

To complete my look, I just threw on one of my older coats and a party bag, and I was ready to go. Holiday glam!

Location: Central Library, Downtown, St. Louis

Let me know what you find when you shop the latest arrivals at Gordmans. And, stay tuned for an upcoming holiday gift post featuring some of my top finds for gifts. All I’m going to say is there are two items from Gucci that I got at about 60% off.

Gordmans Gotta-Haves:
The Fall Trends Our Stylist Scored

October 26, 2017

Hi! I’m Zoe, your Gordmans stylist. Every time I shop our stores for the latest styles, I feel like I’ve hit the fashion jackpot! I want all of our guests to feel like that, too.

So my goal when choosing my Gordmans Gotta-Haves is to show everyone how to get the latest craze for less cash and get big names without paying big bucks. Because great minds shop alike!

This season, you’ve gotta have some luxe looks in your closet. Here’s what’s filed in our style cabinet:

  • Velvet everything. It’s a smooth operator that makes everything better from bags to boots. And when it’s paired with the latest jewel tones — AH-mazing and just screams luxe.
  • Speaking of jewel tones, they’re pretty much replacing diamonds as a girl’s best friend this fall. What’s better on a dreary, drab day than wearing a fab sapphire A-line skirt or ruby red combat boots?
  • Everyone wants that one super comfy black sweater that you wish you could literally live in (but you can’t because…laundry day).
  • Leopard print. Can I just ask how such a bold print goes with almost everything?! Of course you don’t want to pair it with a huge floral print or anything like that, but this backpack can rock a jeans and t-shirt look during the day and an LBD at night.
  • You need a triangle scarf in your life! Trust me on this. It can be used in so many ways and has style for miles.

I scored all of these need-now luxe looks right in our stores. Imagine what unburied treasure you’ll find! What are your Gordmans gotta-haves?!
