If you’ve got home-styling chops you want to show off, keep reading for a chance to win a Gordmans gift card!

Luxe for less

Vlogger Kayla Pritchard chose ‘luxe for less’ pieces to transition her home perfectly, from a different take on a traditional vase to this unique smokey glass pumpkin. Try out her tips for a similar look to your home.

Getting cozy

Youtuber Candice of Fancy That with Candice shared her two-part home haul for the holidays. Take her cue and get cozy with soft sweater slipper booties for lounging around the house, or chasing after her boys – who no doubt keep her on her (now toasty) toes.

Vintage and eclectic

Add a few choice quirky, eclectic pieces to your décor, like Leah of Keep Calm And Blush On did with this wavy cut marble tray with copper hardware. Its thick rope handles contrast the slick marble and give it subtle character, which she’ll use as a catchall or to display seasonal décor.

Harvest home

Blogger Shauna of Trying to Stay Calm was all about the harvest theme for a festive fall home. She stocked up in-store for decorating and gifting goodies for her family and friends. Keep a few pieces for each season handy, and you’ll always be ready for gifts and guests.

Halloween Decor Tricks
That are Too Cute to Spook

October 11, 2017

It’s the season of frights, but scary décor isn’t for everyone. Young kids may find creepy, horror-inspired decorations far from festive as they trek door to door on trick-or-treat night. So, remember to reserve the truly scary stuff for grownup parties or out-of-the-way spaces, and keep cheery décor in sight for the kiddos. After all, the objective is to welcome trick or treaters to your door and not scare them away, right?

Read on for a few kid-friendly décor ideas to inspire Halloween smiles.

Who’s There?

Step up your Halloween game and welcome trick or treaters and houseguests with a cute doormat. It’s a unexpected, fun addition to your front door, back door or any high-traffic entryway that can help keep your floors clean. Fun and functional? Now that’s a treat!

How Sweet!

Décor that does double duty? Nothing scary about that. Deliver soft glows to your front porch or entryway by adding flameless candles to metal pumpkins for a bewitching Halloween scene. Then, on trick-or-treat night, swap out the candles with goodies and you’ve got handy candy dishes for when neighborhood ghosts and goblins come calling.

Easy Does It!

With toddlers and pets around the house, breakable Halloween décor finds may not be the best options. No worries. Soft, plush options are readily available to show your Halloween spirit. If they take a tumble, they won’t break. They typically have friendlier appearances too, so there’s little chance of scaring.

Hang On!

Greet young, door-to-door revelers by hanging fun décor on your front door. Pieces with jack-o-lanterns and black cats are great options and wreaths with fall’s finest like leaves, feathers and corn also add a seasonal touch without adding scares. Use your best discretion on Halloween night and your little guests will leave your doorstep with smiles.

By The Yard!

Short on time? Decorating your outdoor space with yard stakes is super easy – and sure to get noticed. Pick your places, then grab your stakes and push them into the ground. They’re easily changed, too. Just pull them up, relocate and push. As decorating goes, it doesn’t get much quicker. Note: be sure to place your stakes in spaces that won’t trip or cause accidents for your trick or treaters.

3 Easy Ways To Spice Up Your Home For Harvest Season

September 27, 2017

At long last, fall is back! The cooler temps, tasty bounty (hello, apples and sweet corn!) and fiery colors inspire feelings of coziness and warmth. It’s also a favorite time of year to decorate – and refreshing your spaces during harvest season can be as simple as it is beautiful.

Read on for three easy-to-DIY decorating ideas that are sure to brighten any space.

Hang A Wreath

On a door, on a wall and other unexpected places like a table, it’s a snap to set a seasonal tone with a beautiful, ready-made wreath. Go big for high drama or small for a more understated approach, depending on your available space. Today’s styles boast everything from dried leaves and berries to gourds, small pumpkins and feathers. Deck your front door, back door, side door or room doors. They’re easy to put up and even easier to take down.

Bonus use: group candles of various colors, sizes and shapes together on a surface such as a dining table or coffee table, then use your wreath as a candle ring to encircle them all. We think you’ll love the result!

Add A Tobacco Basket

Tobacco baskets are all the rage and can be easily worked into your fall displays with very little effort. On mantles, console tables or other flat surfaces, use them as eye-catching backdrops for smaller décor items such as candles and decorative pumpkins. Prop them up vertically against walls or other sturdy items or hang them, depending on your space. For extra pop, scatter colorful, dried leaves found in your yard at the base of your display.

Bonus idea: place tobacco baskets horizontally on surfaces and place décor in them. Taller items, such as decorative pumpkins and lanterns, tend to look best and have greater impact.

Fill A Basket

Baskets come in all shapes and sizes and are made with many different materials, which makes them versatile, smart additions to fall displays. Baskets made with wire, wicker and metal are some of the most popular. Just pick your space, pick your size and pick your basket material, then spruce it up with your fave pieces. Not sure what to include? Long tree twigs mixed with short, decorative pumpkins is one suggested combo. Basket-lining, plush fabric nestled with ears of colorful corn and gourds is another. Remember to keep it colorful – unless your space calls for a more muted color palette!

Bonus idea: display your harvest baskets through Thanksgiving, then swap out the fall décor with Christmas décor for a super easy transition to the holiday season.

3 Ways to Style a Tobacco Basket

The hottest trend within the modern farmhouse look right now is adding a tobacco basket to your home decor. They have a rich history and add a great rustic look to your home.  Tobacco baskets date back to the 1800’s and were used to keep tobacco off the floor when storing the tobacco leaves in the warehouse. They were also used to take tobacco to the local markets. There are many other uses for them other than for storage purposes and they are great versatile piece to add to your home decor.

Love Letter

Add a personal touch to your tobacco basket by adding a letter that signifies your first or last name, or just your favorite letter. Glue or use wire to secure the letter to the basket. Then all you need in a simple nail to hang the basket on the wall and you are done.

Another great way to use multiple sizes of tobacco baskets is to layer then by setting them on a shelf against a wall. Then you can add other personal touches like a metal vase with flowers in a color that coordinates with your room. You can also add other home decor pieces to the mix and really show off your personal style.
