A LITTLE SELF CARE FOR THE HEART
In February I went on a girls trip with my aunts and cousins to Waco, TX. We rented a house that is part of magnolia properties as a vacation rental. Chip and Joanna Gaines flipped the Hillcrest Estate and it was simply stunning. Every single room was amazing. The trip, while short, was so amazing. It was filled with so much laughter and wonderful memories. The only thing missing was my mom. She was recovering from a heart surgery to place a couple of stents in her heart. This was a major blow. She is doing great now, but is having to change so many things in her life to make sure her heart is as healthy as it can be. When Gordmans asked if I’d like to partner up with them to spread heart health awareness, it was a no brainer.
Heart health doesn’t stem from just eating a certain diet or working out (although those are both important) but can also come from self care. I have really spent a lot of time investing in self care over the past 6 months. Doing things for myself that I normally wouldn’t. I feel like so many women put themselves last. It’s in our nature. We put our family, friends, jobs, activities, obligations, etc. before ourselves. It is so easy to get lost in taking care of others and forgetting to take care of ourselves.
The other day, I was strolling through Gordmans alone. That, in and of itself, is self care. There is something about shopping alone that is so calming to me! I found an entire section of candles. I can’t remember the last time I bought myself a good candle. I also stumbled on a super cute essential oil diffuser and a whole slew of essential oils. Those came home with me and I have now started a nightly routine of lighting my candle (woodwick, so it has that sweet crackling sound) and starting my diffuser while I try to read a little bit of a book. This sounds so small, but it’s so big. After a long day of chasing after 4 little ones, running to school, play dates, shooting for instagram, trying to come up with a blog post that won’t put you guys to sleep, trying on 15 different outfits, and trying to remember to feed my family 3 times a day – nothing sounds better than curling up in bed surrounded by the smell of eucalyptus oil and the sound of a crackling candle, and reading a few paragraphs of my favorite book.
Do me a favor! Next time you do something heart healthy (anything that you feel is good for your heart) snap a pic and post it on facebook and instagram with the hashtag #GetPumpedForHeartHealth! We would so love you to join the movement! Any time you make a post on instagram or facebook using the hashtag #GetPumpedForHeartHealth, Gordmans will donate $1 to the American Heart Association (up to $10,000).
